Hinchley Wood Children’s Parliament
As you may recall we held our first ‘Hinchley Wood Children’s Parliament’ a couple of weeks ago. Since then, much has been happening behind the scenes. Next week, the first steps in improving the children’s lunch time experience in line with their suggestions will be put into action!
This includes the opening of the Library during lunch to provide a quiet space to read as well as providing those with a green thumb the opportunity to develop our garden area. The two pitches on the MUGA are now on a rota system allowing all KS1 & KS2 children access at lunch times. In the near future, with the support of sixth former volunteers from Hinchley Wood Secondary School, we are looking to develop play activities and team games on the MUGA and in other outside spaces, as well as to run additional clubs for children with interests in areas such as art, board games or puzzles. If the news about the amazing pirate ship play structure for the KS1 playground wasn’t enough, we have been taking advice on ways to redevelop the KS2 play spaces to incorporate more of the children’s ideas. We will share further information on this once it has been finalised. Sadly, there will be no roller coasters, spas or swimming pools in the plans.
This news has been shared with the children this week during assemblies, along with the understanding that these extremely exciting changes will happen gradually rather than overnight. The presentation shared with your children will be available on our website if you wish to view it for yourselves. Ask your child/ren all about the incredible changes that are occurring and the power of sharing your opinions!
