YEAR 1: THE JOLLY POSTMAN
In Willow Class, our Power of Reading focus has been on the story 'The Jolly Postman' by Allan Ahlberg and Janet Ahlberg.
It is a story that follows a journey of a postman delivering letters to many different characters from Traditional Tales. Our show featured The Three Bears from Goldilocks, The Wicked Witch from Hansel and Gretel and the Giant from Jack and the Beanstalk. In our English lessons we had a debate about whether Baby Bear should forgive Goldilocks. Our final decision was that he should (thank goodness!).
In the story, The Wicked Witch receives a catalogue from Hobgoblin supplies. We then designed a new catalogue full of products to sell to the Giant. Our ideas included: a zipwire (to stop him from falling), a pair of x-ray glasses (so that the Giant could see Jack through the walls) and finally an 'Alexa' (so that the Giant can say 'Alexa, is Jack in my castle?'. How creative! Finally, our show brought us to the Giant's castle where the Giant recieved a postcard from Jack who was escaping the cold winter. We have been learning lots about winter in our science topic lessons too. We had lots of fun practising and performing our show and we hope you did too.
